Whatcha Eating Today VSGers? Saturday, August 11, 2018
Welcome to Saturday! We have had hot sunny weather daily here on Cape Cod, but this weekend will bring many thunderstorms. It would have been a good weekend to clean the house, but I already did that! Maybe I will take DH to Mama Mia 2, which I thought about doing a couple of weeks ago but we did something else that day.
QOTD (thanks to skinnynikki7): What is one thing that has happened to you which has made you a stronger person? There have been many things that made me stronger, but the first and probably most important was the birth of my oldest daughter Elise. I was 17 and at the beginning of my senior year in high school. I grew up quickly because I had to and I was determined to make a good life for us. I finished high school, obtained my bachelors and masters degrees at night, and did have a good career. Had Elise not been born, I was on a path to college but I think I would have gotten into trouble there prior to my wonderful wake-up call. I NEVER regretted having a child so young.

ETA: The RNYers Have Photo Friday, so let's have Photo Wednesday! It is a good way to get to know one another. This Wednesday let's start with before and current pictures! I'll remind everyone again on Monday so those that don't post on weekends will have a heads up.

Nick and I are in Atlanta this weekend to see Taylor Swift. He loves her so I got him the tickets for Christmas and it's finally showtime!
QOTD: Several things come to mind for this one. Growing up dirt poor (but in a very loving family) strengthened me and helped me come up in the world knowing nothing would be handed to me and taught me to work hard. Having a kid unexpectedly while in college pushed me to get myself together and I was still able to accomplish my goals. (Liz I can't imagine dealing with it as young as you were - you handled that like a champ!) And then there's the experience I had of being the victim of a pretty brutal armed robbery. I was able to remain calm and rational and did my best to keep my friend who was with me safe and it showed me what I'm made of. Tough stuff that made me tougher :)
B - coffee & protein
L - yogurt and almonds
D - scallops and grilled corn

OMG - an armed robbery! I imagine that could be life changing in either direction.

Yeah, it was a major event for me. The robbery went on for quite a while ended up with me tied up without my clothes with two men holding guns to my head. It was the most terrifying experience of my life. I developed PTSD and struggled with that for 7 years before finally finding the right fit with a therapist who helped me overcome it. So for quite a while I felt it made me weaker. Now I have almost zero PTSD symptoms and I couldn't be more grateful! And I know I can handle myself in an emergency.

QOTD: this might be long....
my father tried to commit suicide when I was in 4th grade. It made the news. I found out at school before my mom had the chance to tell me. My last name is unique. One of my teachers asked me about it INFRONT of the entire class. Other kids made it to be a big joke and rode me pretty hard about it. I made it into a joke to...to survive. It was an awakening moment for me. I realized that yes my father is a selfish person and that he never cared for us. It was a hard lesson. I also, at that moment, swore I'd never do that to my family!
i also was the main caretaker for my grandparents. My grandpa had Alzheimer's and that was tough. The hardest thing i've been through. BUT...being able to help my grandpa have as much dignity as possible was my biggest accomplishment.
B: egg whites, 2 chicken sausage links and .5 oz of cheese
L: Protein shake
D: pizzas casserole
S: Mushroom Soup,
Mel
What a terrible thing for a teacher to do! I wonder if she ever thought back and realized how wrong that was?
How wonderful that you could help your grandpa retain his dignity. My DH has Alzheimer's and it is a daily struggle which doesn't get better.
