Hi everyone, so happy my 6 months is over. I only have water and protein shakes in my refrigerator. That will help me stay on my liquid diet starting tomorrow. Hopefully my insurance will approve my VSG soon if not I will be on liquids for 3 weeks. How long did you stay on liquids before surgery?

I had 10 days of liquids before surgery. My advice - keep as busy as possible, it'll help you stay distracted!

VSG with Dr. Salameh - 3/13/2014
Diagnosed with Binge Eating Disorder and started Vyvanse - 7/22/2016
Reconstructive Surgeries with Dr. Michaels - 6/5/2017 (LBL & brachioplasty), 8/14/2017 (UBL & mastopexy), 11/6/2017 (medial leg lift)

I had 10 days of protein shakes, broth and only specified raw fruit and veggies. Then the last 4 days were only clear protein(Isopure) and water. I hope you don't have to do three weeks, but as Gwen mentioned, staying busy is the key. I learned to crochet 2 weeks before surgery:-)

I'm going to call my dr. office to ask him can I have raw veggies for next week only. I looked at my calendar I might not have my VSG until 26 or 27 of July. That means I will be on liquids for 27or 28 days.Thank you for sharing your pre op diet!

Okay, so I had a surgery date booked and we backed out the start of the pre op diet from there. I was on it for two weeks. It's consisted of mostly protein shakes, with some allowances for oatmeal, brothy soups (no rice or pasta), sugar free jello and pudding, sf popsicles, Greek yogurt and skyr (basically any high protein, low carb, low sugar choice). Because the goal was to lose 2-4% of my weight, I stuck with mostly protein because I knew it would help me lose the most/fastest. The day before surgery, it was clear liquids only.

It sounds like different docs use different plans. I will mention that days 2-5 might be rough -- carb and sugar detox gave me a 3 day headache and keto flu. But after that hump, the protein (and keeping busy, like others have said), wil carty yiu through.
