Hungry and Eating Too Much post VSG
Hello,
I'm just over a month out from my VSG surgery and am already having trouble eating too many calories and being hungry all the time. I've been eating things like shredded chicken, fish, cooked veggies, PB, greek yogurt, etc. but I have a REALLY hard time keeping my calories below 1200 for the day. I always measure my food in a 1/2 cup size. I end up eating 4-5 times a day because I'm starving (not head hunger...I've been really keeping cognizant of that). My weight has been dropping slowly (lose some, stay the same, stay the same, stay the same, lose some, ...).
I've also been SUPER depressed for no reason...it's been hard to go to work. I have no energy or desire to do anything.
Anyone else have issues like this? Please tell me it gets better...because if I stay this hungry all the time I'm definitely gaining my weight back.

Thanks Erin...yes I'm on GERD medicine. Strangely enough I haven't had heartburn since the surgery, which was one of my main concerns. A weird occurrence however is that my "full" feeling and my empty stomach feeling are the same feeling. So I stop eating after 1/2 cup to prevent over eating.
I will ask my Dr. about this however when I go back.

Some people have GERD but do not feel any symptoms. Perhaps you should ask about a different medication. What are you taking?

I'm glad you're aware of this now. Because you are going to have a really, really hard time with this later on, and you will not accomplish your weight loss goals.
This is NOT actual hunger. It just isn't. It absolutely could be head hunger, in spite of what you might believe. It can also be acid, which mimics hunger. Are you on a PPI? If not, you should be. Even if you are, many people have to adjust dosages, or even change types, before they find something that works.
Find a way to fight this, now. You can make this work.

Hello, I drink 120+ ounces of water a day. I will have to type it up, I track my food in lose it. Typically tho lots of chicken, eggs, fish, yogurt, cheese, pb, etc. Some veggies but mostly protein.
