can inside staples pop after exertion???

I am about 13 days out of VSG and I walked my dog yesterday (she's about 20 lbs. but REALLY hyper and strong). Last night and today I have severe pain on my side and if I sneeze or cough it's worse. I'm wondering if I may have popped my inside staples?? Has anyone exerted themselves this early on and has anything happened to the inside staples?? I'm nervous that I may have done something to my sleeve. I know I may just be nervous but I feel like I'm never full and I'm worried.

Thanks!

Please call your team. They may or may not have used internal staples. This is a question for your team to answer.

Keep on losing!

I did and they said most likely I didn't do any damage (they did use staples). But they said to come in if its still painful. The problem is that the hospital is 2 hours away and I really don't want to go if its just a strain.

You will not feel any sensation of fullness for quite a while yet. The nerves in your stomach have all been cut, and you won't feel anything until they heal-- at least a month out, possibly more.

if you popped your staples, you sleeve would be leaking stomach contents into you abdominal cavity and you would be deathly ill. I mean DEATHLY I'll. You are prob fine andsince you checked with your surgeon you should follow his instructions.

Hope you're feeling better. Maybe give urself time to heal before straining with ur dog. I have a 20 lb dog & they can hurt u, esp cuz ur surgeon is so far away. If u are experiencing new pain U should probably just go in for a quick check up.

I had a lot of "big incision" pain post surgery. It would come on suddenly and very sharply several times a day, the first time it ever happen was very similar to you, I was walking my dog about 2 weeks post surgery. There was a lot of regret and thinking "something is very wrong". To help, I would apply pressure when I was moving around and it hurt, and when it was constant I would use a heating pad application, in addition to taking it slow. It seemed to flare up more when I did more physical activity, coughed, or did a big sigh. The doctor said it was OK, likely the dissolving stitching causing issues. In the back of my head I was skeptical, but just like he said, between 6-7 weeks post surgery it just went away and hasn't come back.

Thank you!! It sounds like you went through what I'm experiencing and that definitely makes me feel better. The pain is like a knife when I cough and sneeze. Hopefully it gets better soon.

Yup! That's how I described it to my wife/doctor, a sudden knife under my rib.
