Surgery tomorrow!
Hi guys! First time posting, but I've been reading for months.
I wanted to thank you all for chronicling your journeys here, because it's been a huge help to me as I decided on and then worked toward this life-changing decision.
My surgery is tomorrow and I am really nervous. Not so much about the surgery itself, which I'm sure will go great, but about my life afterward. My relationship with carbs and fried food is so crazy that I feel like I'm losing my best friend. But I'm turning 30 in March and it is time for a change in my life, so here goes nothing!
The process begins. I've lost 20 pounds on the pre-op liquid diet, which has been very encouraging.
Best of luck. You'll do great.
The surgery was amazingly successful for me. I lost 225 pounds, and I went from a bmi of 60 to a bmi of 25, and I've been maintaining near goal for the past 4 years.
It isn't easy. the process itself is "not fun" as you get used to your new tummy, but it was always manageable. And maintaining takes constant effort. The surgery doesn't make it easy, but it makes it possible.
best wishes

It is awful. Sort of. It is also short. I am 14 months out and 208 lbs down. If you change your mindset, you will do well. Good luck!

Thank you. I should probably clarify that I didn't mean that you HAD to change anything about your mindset, but that in general, if we - we being fat people having surgery- change OUR mindsets, we do very well. I made the change the day I started this process. Some people never make it. It is up to you how successful you will be, and I wish you well. This has been a great thing for me, and I am planning on never going back.
Congrats on your surgery!! :-)
You can do this. All negative relationships can be reworked. You're strong enough for it to have made it this far! A therapist that you trust can also help you quite a bit!
Take chapstick! Seriously.
