If ever I needed ibuprofen...

We heat our 200 year old stone farmhouse with both oil and wood. Wood is better because it is way cheaper. It is also a lot more work. We didn't burn any wood last year because I was in my recovery period from surgery. There was no way I was going to risk busting a gut - literally! - just to save a few bucks.

Today I fired up our outdoor furnace and unloaded a little more than a cord of firewood. I reckon this stuff checked in at 4000 lbs or so. The little chunks were 20-50 lbs. There were lots of big pieces in the 100-150 lb range. They are great for long burning in that huge furnace.

But moving all of that put a real hurtin' on my back. This is the worst I've felt since surgery after spending half a day chainsawing logs and slinging them around out in the cold. I am cleared for occasional use of ibuprofen, but I'm going to hold off until tomorrow and see if my aged but slimmer body recovers. If worst comes to worst, I still have some liquid narcotics left over from surgery. One thing for sure. I don't need no gym membership with doing more stuff like this again.

Thank you Cathy. I pushed a little harder than I should have to get the big pieces done. I was lifting them and thinking, "How in the world did we get them on here!?!" Then I remembered we used a hand truck. So I shot myself in the foot, so to speak. I will survive, and I can thumb my nose at the oil man while I do.

I always plan on a goof off day after a day like this, but it never works out. It didn't today. Maybe tomorrow.

That would be great! But then, I'd have to chop more wood for it.

We don't have a tub, only a shower. I am starting to rethink that though. Getting a decent sized tub into a stone house has challenges.
