Don't compare yourself to others. The people who lose 20 or more pounds in the first week generally have 100+ lb to lose, and there may be other factors at play as well.

Surgery is not magic and you won't lose all of your weight quickly, so make sure to temper your expectations.

Hello everyone. This is my first time here and I'm very excited to be a part of this group! I had a starting weight of 207 and my BMI was around 36. I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and pre diabetic. I decided to have VSG to help with these health problems and because I have struggled with my weight my whole life, gain, lose, gain, lose, the dreaded yo-yo. I had my surgery and am 10 days post op. I have only lost 7 pounds! I was expecting more loss I guess so I am disappointed. Any words of wisdom for me?

I had a gastric bypass on 10/17/17. I made a promise to myself to weigh only weekly so when I went to my 1st post-op appt. I had not weighed since the day of surgery. I was expecting a phenomenal weight loss. I actually only lost 1.2 lbs. I was crying when the nutritionist and nurse practitioner came in. The next week, I lost 7 lbs. The weight will come off, be patient. You probably got a ton of fluids in the hospital, are probably constipated and your insides are probably still a bit raw and swollen. Some of us are fast losers, others are slower losers (I'm more towards slow) but we all lose. Concentrate on protein, be sure you are eating enuff, keep the carbs healthy and sip, sip, sip tha****er.

I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of us consider ourselves to be slow losers :D We always lose more slowly than we want to!
