So nervous for tomorrow! My surgery is scheduled for 10:30 AM which means I get to be in rush hour traffic driving down to the cities. My anxiety is going to be through the roof so any tips to keep it maintained?

Also i have heard from different nurses that I can drink water up until 2 hours before my surgery and others say I have to stop 8 hours before my surgery.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

Hi, just wanted to say good luck on your surgery. I was just sleeved on Fri 9/15. So far so good, very manageable pain, nauseous the first 2 days but better now. I do seem to have some excess mucus. As far as water goes I was told on water 6 hrs before surgery by my doctor and nurses.

Any chance you could stay in a hotel close to the hospital tonight instead? What's what I always do.

I recommend asking your surgeon about the liquids. I'm always told "nothing after midnight."

It's only 40 miles from my house so not a huge deal I just don't like rush hour traffic. I did reach out to my nurse and she said some hospitals are different with what time to stop drinking water so thankfully I can drink 2 hours until my surgery.

Heh. My hospital is even closer than that mileage-wise, and I still stay in a hotel the night before surgery because any hotel is still cheaper than adding the anxiety of morning traffic to the entire surgery experience. :)

Good luck, I was sleeved on 8/29. I was allowed enough water to take meds the morning of surgery. This board is great for advice and comfort. Come back often I stalk it all day!

I had to stop liquids after midnight. I was anxious too, but two of my best friends came with me and we just talked nonsense on the car ride up until they rolled me into surgery.

Good luck, you'll be fine!
