Why stalling so much?
I am following my post-surgery protocols to the letter (80+ gr protein, 64+ oz. water, carbs lower than 30-40 gr, diet progression stages, bariatric vitamins, walking, sleep), but I have only lost 12 pounds since surgery a month ago (stopped losing inches too), and my weight is very high, not one of the patients that starts at 200-225. Every person I've seen at my weight loses 20-25 pounds the first month. I'm not on thyroid meds or any other meds that would interfere. I do seem to be swelling up in the areas where I have osteoarthritis, but I quit NSAID's a month before surgery. I'm glad I'm not hungry and started healthy puréed foods with no problem, so I'll stick to my protocol. I wonder: have I completely destroyed my metabolism by having so few calories to lose 20 lbs. before surgery on the liquid diet? I am now up to 650-700 per day. I'm so worried I won't be able to accomplish the large weight loss people get in year 1. Anyone experience this and break long stalls in some way? Any helpful suggestions? I don't go back to my doctor again until Oct. 23.
Relax. It sounds like you're doing fine. It's barely been one month, and you aren't stalled.
The only thing that messed up your metabolism was obesity, not are or post op diet.
One month is a really, really short amount of time. Stick to what you are doing. Weigh and track your portions, so you'll KNOW exactly how much you are eating. Do that, and you'll do fine.

Grim is right. Stick to program and you will lose. Some people actually gain weight immediately after surgery due to all the fluid they put in you. I suspect your body is finding a new fluid balance. I was a very slow loser, sometimes only 4 lbs a month and yet I got below goal. As you move forward try to do more walking as you can. Keep the calories at 700 or less. you will get there. Diane S
Not everyone loses like that. It's a very individual experience. When you're 2 years out you won't even care what you lost in the 1st month- cause you'll have a broader picture to revel in.
Understanding metabolism is like trying to understand astrophysics. Just keep working your program.

Grim is spot on. This too shall pass as long as you stay with your program. It take our bodies some time to readjust after surgery and for some reason, the body likes to take it's sweet time....sometimes a week, sometimes 3 weeks, or even longer. But when your body feel comfortable with all the changes so far, you'll start dropping the weight and inches again. I know it's difficult, but patience and perseverance. You've got this!!

750 calories seems like a lot 1 month out. I was told 400 the first 3 months then no more than 600 until 6 months out.
Thanks for the encouragement! When I took the 12 pounds I lost and multiplied it by the number of months in a year or a year and a half, I realized I can get there too! :) I'm just so grateful to have the restriction and no feelings of hunger or cravings because it makes it easy or me to comply. That is what is different from before vsg.
