At 6 weeks I was around 500 calories, by 8-10 weeks I was at 600 calories and at 4 months I was around 650 calories. 6 1/2 months out and I've only hit 1,000 calories twice so far.

RNY'er here, but I think the caloric intake is about the same. Like some of the other posters, I was around 600-800 at that time. I wasn't at 1200 until I was about a year out.

At that time, I was around 900 calories. I moved up to 1200 about 6-7 months post-op.

600-700 for the first 6 months, then up to 800 until 12 months. 17 months out and my goal is 900, but am usually at 1000.

You just posted about having a 3 week stall. 1200 sounds like a lot especially since many people maintain on that calorie count. With your goal being 120 pounds away, you should try to maximize your loss at this point.

I also needed to lose 200 pounds when I started. I had RNY but consumed around 500 at 9 weeks out and always stayed below 900 until I got to goal.

Around 800. I'm just about 23 weeks from surgery. I try to stay between 800 and 900 and avoid getting to 1000. It's such contrary advice to anything given to the non-WLS world that I really struggled with keeping my calories that low and believing it was necessary. But I have to trust my surgeon and also the vets here that getting the weight off fast is really important. And the beauty of WLS is that you're not hungry on that little unlike someone with their original anatomy.

Thank you, each and every one of you for your responses. It seems I have a few things to do:

a) check with my nut for calorie guidelines

b) check with the nurse about the physical 'hunger' I am feeling - maybe it is something else, already take PPI x 2/day

c) cut back on the calories... probably by setting a timer and anything left over at the alarm is left uneaten.

Then again I am down 49lbs (4 plus/wk) and almost 20% from my starting weight... not sure I really want to be losing any faster than this.

I'll let you know what the team says when I talk with them tomorrow.

Like most everyone else who posted, I was around 500-600 calories a day at the same point post op. And just a comment about your post. I would recommend that you lose as much as you can as fast as you can. It is so much easier to lose in the period of time immediately post op, so for me, my aim was to get it off FAST. The hard part starts 12-18 months post op when you can naturally eat more and it becomes difficult to maintain, let alone lose. Lose now like it's your job

I lost all my excess weight in less than 6 months (120lbs). There is NO upside to losing slowly, NONE!
