Talking about weight

I completely agree. I wish that we'd talk about people's bodies less all together, whether on the topic of weight or otherwise!

It bugged the **** out of me then, and it still does. Then it was because of the underlying whiff of condescension there would always be from someone, and now because so much of what I hear framed as diet advice is junk science and fad diets.

In one office I work, there is a woman constantly promoting her SIL's nutrition consultation/personal training business. She talks about how eating specific combinations of foods and following his advice has made her lose X pounds.

I yawn and ignore her, but it irks me she won't shut up. I don't give normies diet or weight loss advice, and really only talk about weight loss here.

I fight badgers with spoons.

Ugh, that condescension and the fad diet crap. And if the person is also part of some MLM scheme and trying to see you on their crap? That's the worst.

It doesn't bother me until I'm around family. Last night my wife's aunt and uncle were in town. Her uncle is about 60 pounds overweight and her aunt is about 200 pounds overweight. They immediately made comments on how nice I looked which was nice but I just tried to pu**** off. My mother-in-law has the balls to ask how much I weigh while I'm sitting next to my wife's aunt. I just responded with in the 160's and changed the subject. Those are the awkward situations that I wish that I could avoid.

How did you feel when people talked about losing weight around you before you pursued surgery?

My go to reply when people ask me how much I weigh is "less than I did!"

I didn't get so much as a feeling as much as an attitude when people would talk to me about my weight before. My attitude was generally up yours it's my problem not yours. So I guess things are kind of still the same when you think about it!

I would have responded with "What's the balance in your checking account today?" And when there was shock at my question calmly stated that my weight is a private matter, just like the balance of my checking account. :)

Keep on losing!

I am usually pretty quick to come up with something like that but I have to admit I like that one! In fact I'm going to thieve it!

Well, as we all know the country is fighting the war against obesity. THAT makes me uncomfortable because does it make me the enemy? Can I be shot on sight for eating in public?

I always think people are wondering why doesn't he/she/me just have the surgery and be done with it.

Since I was a kid I have always hated when the topic of my weight came up - and this was all the time. Back in the '60's and 70's obesity was less common and people felt no restriction on their commenting/joking/shaming. I still think it is very personal, however I will admit that when I see someone who has lost a lot of weight I immediately want to know "how they did it", as if there were magic involved.

Your first paragraph - sigh. Yes, it's really awful.
