I think I am having a mental breakdown
I definitely experienced "liquid fatigue" when I was in my liquid diet. Between pre and post-op I had 24 days total and I was SO ready for something other than protein shakes by then.
I think that this will pass once you're able to get some flavor and variety into your life.

Yes, it will pass. It takes time. You are only 4 days out. Ask yourself if you are hungry. You shouldn't be -- the ghrelin producing part of your stomach was removed. I'm 5 years out and I still don't feel hunger. I know when I'm empty, but I don't feel any hunger at all.
One of the hardest parts of VSG (or any WLS, I would guess) is going through the initial steps, the initial re-introduction of liquids/foods. Getting through the liquids stage is hard. Once you get to start on mushies, it will be better for you.
For now, find a way to get control of the remote -- when food commercials come on, hit the mute button and keep a book/magazine/needlework project, handy while those darn commercials are on. Mind over matter!
You had the surgery for your health........once you start seeing the rapid loss, you'll feel stronger and know that you can overcome the constant thoughts about food.
Protein shakes are still a part of my life. I love Premier Protein shakes -- especially the chocolate ones! Find one that you really like. It makes a huge difference..........really
Good luck -- be kind to yourself, and be patient, too.

Oh, yes, those of us who had extended liquid diets can feel your pain. Are you having a good rich broth, beef or chicken, in addition to those shakes? I stirred unflavored protein powder into broth a lot of the time because I coudn't take another sweet shake.
Once you get to soft foods, it will get much easier. Hang in there, this is the worst part. I did 21 days of clear liquids and protein shakes myself, so I know exactly what you're going through!
EDITED TO ADD: Unlike Gwen and Italian-Princess...I avoid protein shakes with every fiber of my being! I keep a pack of 4 vanilla Premier in my fridge for emergencies, but they usually go bad before I use one!
Hm. Have you tried pureeing the stuff that you're craving?
