Pleas help my vsg vets....
I am so confused, on Thursday I attended my first eating disorder group therapy session. While there I met with a nutritionist that is not my normal person that I see. She advised me to follow the plan she gave me and not that of my surgeon. She wants me to eat carbs and grains such as fruit, rice, potatoes and so on. We also eat together while I am there and I have a hard time with this way of eating. I have been having issues with binge eating, she says it is because it is because low carbs is the wrong way for me to eat, she says my body is starving. I am so confused, I want to lose weight, not pile it on. Thanks for your time
This makes me furious. This nutritionist is completely full of **** She has no idea what she is talking about. None. A monkey could give you better eating advice.
Don't ever, ever, let any person, anywhere, pressure you into eating something you feel you shouldn't. Not a jackass nutritionist, a best friend, or a favored aunt. No one.
Unless I was somehow required to attend that group, I would not go back. And I would make sure to tell my surgeon another "professional" was telling you to ignore the surgical plan.

I recommend that you schedule a meeting with the director of the program to talk about your specific post-operating nutrition needs. Perhaps see if your surgeon's Nut would be willing to speak to this person on your behalf as well.

Agree this is worst advice ever. There are lots of badly educated NUTs out there. You need one with experience in bariatrics.
My advise is to take that info to your surgeon and see what he/she says about it. But I will say this ... you AREN'T "starving yourself" if you are getting in your protein and taking your vitamins. Nothing I have ever read about BED has said it is caused by a lack of food.
If you fall down you just have to get back up.
