Three days to go
I started having the same thoughts before surgery. I had lost massive amounts of weight for many years, but I knew I was never able to maintain it. I would get stressed and I'd start overeating. I reached my goal 10 months after surgery, and even when I lost my Husband I didn't start overeating. I didn't gain at all. If I hadn't had the surgery I pretty sure I would have gained it all back, and probably a little extra.

Your thoughts are totally normal. So take consolation in the fact that you're not abnormal :D
For me, there was always the knowledge of "could I lose the weight without the surgery? Sure. Have I?" And the answer to that last question was the important thing. I lost ~25 pounds pre-op, but I was never tempted to cancel surgery because I hoped surgery was the missing link I hadn't had before.
So.. yeah. Could you do it without the surgery? Perhaps. Have you? No.

I felt the same way. I just reminded myself that if I could have done it on my own, I would have already done it on my own! Diets don't work I have really come to believe that much of our weight issues are genetics and I'm thankful that there are surgical solutions when diets don't work.
I also am on the lighter side of obese. Even the admitting person said she said I looked too small to be getting this surgery. But my body doesn't lie. I have diabetes, sleep apnea and aching joints. I needed this surgery.
I am 3 days post op. It went very well. Now I'm just waiting for the weight loss and to be able to start eating again.
We can do this. You will do great with the surgery. Just remind yourself why you signed up for it in the first place.
I had the same thoughts too but then I remembered the countless diets where I would do well and then regain more than I had lost. I knew I needed another "tool". I've NEVER maintained when I hit a low weight before (would diet down, then start back up again). I've been at my current weight now for 7 months). HOPEFULLY with the additional "tool" (and lots of support) I'll be able to stay here.
