Help please - Need 100 calorie snacks
Hi all
I've recently been struck with the flu & bronchitis as well as having a change in medication and suddenly I find myself craving chocolate, biscuits and comfort food. I'm doing my best to watch my sugar intake but with no opportunity or motivation (as sick) to exercise or carry on my usual daily routine I have really noticed I am slipping up.
Has anyone got suggestions for alternative snacks that might help get me out of the slide I'm in? I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

It's best if you stop thinking in terms of snacks. Our whole lives, our brains have been conditioned to think of a snack as something yummy, and almost always has no nutritional value.
Think in terms of small meals, rather than snacks. If you truly are hungry, and not just craving, have a piece of chicken or ham. Low calorie, plenty of necessary nutrition. If you don't want that, it's just a craving, and you don't need it.

Thanks Grim, i needed to hear that and you are so right about the need to reset my language around food. The more time goes by the bigger a role I realise the head stuff plays in being successful. I know it's not hunger, just feeling low in energy and wanting comfort food.
Time for me to get tough on myself and cut out the sweets after my last meal (my danger zone)
You totally want to stay clear of any snacking. Make sure you're drinking all your water and if you're still hungry try having a protein shake. Don't get in the habit of reaching for a snack, that will lead you back to where you were before surgery. If you're not feeling well and can't go for a walk, try reading a book or calling a friend to get your mind off snacking. Hang-in-there, you can do this.
Being sick is the worst. Grim is right completely. I tend to give myself one "comfort food" meal a day when I'm sick. Which tends to mean some oatmeal. Or, um, right now it's velveeta shells and cheese. I keep the portion small, just like a normal meal, so 4 ounces max.
But Grim is right. Reset the thought process of snacks and comfort food. It's hard, but it's worth it.

chicken. when you hungry - or want something - grab a bite of baked chicken. You don't want chicken? you are not hungry.

Thanks Kathy, these will come in handy when I know i really need a fix (usually when aunt Flo is in town).
I'm so glad I posted this because the overwhelming response is to refrain from "snacking" and focus on real hunger & protein choices. It's so easy to forget the power our minds play in this and I have found all responses very useful.
