Cravings?
Good morning everyone!
Hope everything is going well today. I was wondering about cravings when I start eating solid food..will I still want bad food or will that change? Right now, I am not hungry at all but I know that I need to eat to survive. LOL. Dehydration is scaring the **** outta me so I am drinking water like its my job. However, I just wonder about the future and what that will be like..
Is there any older VSGer that can let me know what their daily life is like? That would be great.

Surgery fixes your stomach, not your head. WLS won't make you want cake any less, unfortunately.

Julie is right. Surgery changes your stomach, not your brain. I recommend working with a therapist to help with the brain stuff. For example, I always crave ice cream - but I've gotten to the point where I don't need to do anything about that craving. Which is a good place to be in my book. It just takes a lot of work.

I agree with everyone else about it changing your stomach and not your head but also your taste buds change a lot so things you once found so good may not taste so great. You have to stay strong and true to the cause. You made this choice and sticking to the right choices will make you feel so much better in the long run. Good luck!!!
I am one month from surgery, and I'm having trouble tolerating anything sweet, even if it is sugar free. That really helps me stay on track, but makes it hard to get protein shakes down! I think it varies by person, but I definitely agree that the mental stuff is still there.
I try this: Before I eat something, I ask myself 1) Why am I going to eat this? 2) Is this what my body needs? 3) Is this more important than my goal? It at least slows me down and makes me think about it.
Same here, redhead! I've been hypersensitive to sweets ever since surgery, and sweeteners and SF beverages that I adored before, I can't stand now. Finding cold SF beverages that taste good to me has been a real struggle. The only things that worked until recently were Diet Lipton Green Tea w/Citrus (which was good but not great****d tea with pure sucralose, and water. Recently I discovered Diet Lipton Green Tea w/Mixed Berry flavor, and I love it! Out with the Citrus which was just tolerable! lol I keep trying new things, but I keep being grossed out or terribly disappointed!

During the weight loss phase, the positive reinforcement of looser clothing and scale numbers make it relatively easy to not give in to cravings. During inevitable weight loss stalls and likely during maintenance, staying away from unhealthy foods is just as hard as ever.
