Weighing food
I have noticed on several posts where it is mentioned that some of you weigh out portions of food to eat. I can understand the benefit to this, in keeping your portions small throughout time. My question is, how do you know how much you can/should eat? I am only about 1 month post-op and just now am allowed to eat basically anything, but I never know how much of each food to eat. I just stop when I feel full. Which, for now, is about 4-5 small bites. Thanks for input!

When I was one month out, I was in the 1-2 ounce range. (I didn't start weighing until I was to soft foods. With pureed foods I did volume.)
My surgeon's plan told me 4-8 ounces per meal for my "forever diet." I opt for 4-6 ounces. I never "ate until I felt full" because my goal wasn't ever to feel full, my goal was just to get the nutrients my body needed.
Sometimes now I'll eat until full and ugh, I hate that feeling. It used to be a comforting feeling and now it's just gross :/

Right now I eat 3-4 ounces of dense protein plus veggies (whatever fits). I have transitioned to this over the 13 months since surgery. I also have noticed that my always slim SIL eats just about the same amount as I do now so obviously it is really a normal amount (I just didn't realize that)

I've learned from experience and the people here, that keeping your portions small is better especially early out. You can't feel a lot inside of you yet, so 1 or 2 oz portions are better. I know I can eat 3-4 oz at a time, but I choose not to. I would rather eat more through the day with smaller portions just to be safe.
Absolutely correct! At a few months out I was also only eating 1-2 ounces. It took a year to get to 3-4 (and I usually only have 3).
