Appointment with surgeon tomorrow. Nervous!
My nerves are up for an appointment I have with the surgeon tomorrow. I've been dealing with acid reflux off and on since about January. In March around my 6 month post op time I started feeling alot of esophageal swelling so my surgeon had me up my PPI dose to twice a day. Everything was going good until about 4 days ago when the swelling feeling in my esophagus returned with a vengeance. When I woke up with some upper left abdominal pain today that only got worse I called my Surgeons office and they want me in tomorrow morning. He's in surgery all day today so tomorrow was the best they could do. Along with the swelling feeling, i feel like I have to swallow hard and multiple times to get it clear and I've been hiccuping/ burping more than normal. My stomach has also been making a lot more gurgling noises then normal. Can acid reflux really cause all of this? I did have acid reflux prior to my VSG and it was well controlled with just one PPI a day or every other day even. I'm hoping their will be an easy solution to this and that I won't need revision to RNY.
I'm very sorry you're going through this experience. I hope you get good answers tomorrow.

Best of luck wished for you at your appointment today, Lesley. I am still taking a 1 a day omeperazole and think it has really helped keep the reflux away. I need to schedule an apt with my primary physician and see if they want me to stay on the dose after my 6 months surgiversary passes, which will be May 29th. I had severe GERD and acid reflux during my banded years and never want to get back to that place again. :(
I hate to read about people who are suffering :(
I have pretty nasty acid reflux, but it's very controllable, I'm using protonix (pantaprozole) 40 MG and I really only have to take it twice a week. MAYBE 3 times.
Do you have a gallbladder? (The pain is on the wrong side, but gallbladder pain can migrate).

I just got back from the Surgeons and they have an Upper GI scheduled for Tomorrow morning. He said more than likely I will need and EGD done also but they wanted to check the Upper GI first. I do still have my gallbladder. Other than the constant swelling feeling, the last two days I feel like I'm just radiating heat. Slight temp at the docs (99.4) but they didn't seem to concerned about that. Fingers crossed it all goes well.
I'm hoping they can get it scheduled ASAP. This swelling feeling is so uncomfortable.
