Hungry!

I've never had an issue with my exercise and VSG eating. I arrange my meals so that I'm eating when I need to eat around my workouts, but I don't add extra meals. And, thankfully, most of the time I work out first thing in the morning when I'm fasted, which my body likes.

I gained 3 pounds after my half marathon :D But lost it quickly so, whatever.

But, yeah, marathon running is not a healthy thing.

I have no plans to run marathons at this point! I'm hoping to hike the baby mountain with my kids come summer Last year when I did it I had to stop 100 times.

You will rock it :D

Seriously. Pre-op my in-laws (mom and dad) came to visit and we walked around DC with them. The plan was to do this two days. After the first day I was in so much pain that I stayed home the second day and missed out on that time with them. And it took me WEEKS to recover. (Plantar fasciitis, shin splints, ugh.)

Five weeks post-op my in-laws (brother and his fiancee) came to visit and we walked around NYC with them. The plan was two-three days and I still had energy and felt great at the end of every day and at the end of all three of the days! When the option was "we could walk or take the subway or hail a cab" I ALWAYS opted for the walk option. It was amazing. And I was still on soft foods and recovering at that point!!

It's amazing how much more I can move now. That's one of my favorite things about post-op life. My ability is never the one that dictates what a group can or can't do.

There has to be something metabolic or maybe it's the low carb diet? I'm so much more mentally clear and even 2 weeks post op when I climbed the stairs at work my winded-ness was gone. When I mentioned it to my husband he kept reminding me of the weightloss, but I lost 90lbs on my own before and my fitness ability is so much better now and I was working out ALL the time before.

Exercise stimulates cortisone. Cortisone may make us fat, by making us hungry and causing insulin resistance.

I have to take extra cortisone before I exercise. If I don't - my bS crashed. Even with cortisone ,- If I work too hard my BS still crashed and I need to stop and eat carbs.

I exercise but slowly, nothing too much cardio that burns just sugar. When I start slowly - my body has a chance to start burning fat instead of sugar. Fat burning is much slower process.

Hunger is often a sign of acid. For me, I've gone through periods where I'm ridiculously hungry and I end up doing a 2-week course of Nexium. This resolves the hunger and then I stop taking it again and everything is fine.

I definitely recommend rearranging your meal times to accommodate exercise if necessary. I try to work out fasted and then do a protein shake after stretching. (and that's breakfast for me)

I'm a Type I diabetic and fasting work outs mean HIGH blood sugars. My liver gets all excited and "helps me out" with a glycogen dump and since I don't make any insulin my body can't compensate for the overage. I have been having a snack prior to working out, but that's the same snack I'd have (maybe just timed a bit differently) if I didn't work out. Ie: I'm not adding food/calories.

I had considered acid, but I truly don't feel anything else and the hunger is very sporadic. Yesterday it was gone as soon as I got up to do something, and now I question if it was maybe work boredom and head hunger. This is a good reminder that I need to plan, ALWAYS. I didn't eat anything, because it wasn't in the plan.
