Day 5 and getting everything in...
I had my VSG surgery on Tuesday. Today is day 5 for me, and I was able to get in all of my protein (60 grams) and water (64 oz.) I know I should be happy that I was able to follow the doctor's instructions, but I keep reading posts from people who are struggling to get in half of their requirements. Should I be worried that I am not feeling any resistance when drinking. I did get full with 2 oz. of broth, and it took me about 40 minutes to finish one 11 oz. Premier Protein drink. I also had a large paraesophageal hiatal hernia repaired during my surgery. I thought because of that I would be more likely to struggle to get all of my liquids in. Is this okay at this point in recovery? Thanks in advance!
Set a timer so that you'll remember to take a sip every 15 minutes :)

Many people have no problems getting in their protein and water right after surgery. Since it all essentially goes right through your stomach, there's not a thing wrong with that...be happy! You are not one of the many who struggled right after surgery. I got mine in by sipping constantly all day long. 40 mins for 11 oz sounds really good, you're actually doing great.
What you need to keep in mind is that when you actually start eating food again, it may get harder for you (not necessarily, just maybe), so enjoy the fact that you are doing so well so soon after surgery! Kudos to you!
It's totally normal and fine to not feel any restriction with liquids - they go right through your stomach, so it's anatomically fine.
I never had a problem with liquids post-op. We should consider ourselves lucky :D

Everyone's different... I, like you, had no problem at 5 days post op. However my girlfriend (who had VSG surgery 10 days before I did) really struggled.
