Just don't overpack. I did, and it was useless and just gave my husband more to wrangle back and forth.

I thought since I'm so picky with flavors, I need to take my own protein powders. I was told to bring my CPAP, but didn't end up using it. I brought changes of clothes, my laptop, my e-reader, hair stuff, dry mouth stuff, and I can't remember what else.

What I used:

toothbrusth/toothpaste
chapstick
smartphone (don't forget the charger!!)
hairbrush
change of underwear

Between walking and sipping and sleeping and recovering from surgery, I didn't have the concentration to read a book, so I watched TV and Facebooked and played games on my phone. I was fine with the nonslip socks the hospital had, and they used a 2nd gown backwards as a robe for me. The protein drink and other drinks they had were fine. My lips were horribly dry, don't forget the chapstick (or whatever you use). I wore comfy clothes with a stretch leisure bra there, and with change of underwear wore the same clothes home.

I would have really liked to have had a pillow in the car to brace against my abdomen during the drive. And I would have liked to have had a heating pad in the hospital, but they usually won't let you bring one in from outside.

Good luck, you'll do great!!

Loose clothes, long phone charging cable, an ipad or laptop with netflix/amazon prime or downloaded movies on it, chapstick, your own pillow in a NOT WHITE pillow case, some slippers or flip flops, biotene is helpful but I was allowed to have ice and then water pretty quick, so depends on your surgeon group

Ear plugs could be nice, put in so you dont hear machines beeping etc

I wore my boxer briefs and nothing else, my gown not tied either to keep from irritating my incisions. The entire floor go to see my undies, but I didnt care. I was the best walker on the floor, fastest and did the most laps :P

The only things I actually used:

  • earplugs
  • phone & charger cable
  • toothbrush
  • change of underwear
  • slip on crocs (I wore those to the hospital, actually)

I was too out of it, tired and sore to bother with anything else. But, the earplugs were essential to my getting any sleep -- hospitals are noisy at night.

In addition to what others have said, I would bring some slip-on shoes or comfy socks. I spent most of my time walking the halls but couldn't bend over to put shoes on! Best wishes!!
