New to this site - pictures coming soon.
Hi Everyone,
My name is Bonnie and I am new to this site. I had VSG on November 1st, so I still consider myself a newbie. I have had weight issues since I was 10 years old and now I'm in my 50's. That's a LONG time! I was able to lose over 100 lbs about 14 years ago and I kept it off for 10 years: I was in the Army and I was very physically fit. I was hurt in Afghanistan in 2012, and after that, I could not workout 5-6X a week, 1-2 hours a day. When I used to work out so vigorously, I was able to eat what I wanted. After I got hurt, I kept eating like a skinny person. Now eating like I was, not exercising, being post menopausal and getting older, I wasn't able to lose the weight on my own or with Weigh****chers. I kept gaining weight until I reached 242 lbs. For about a year, I thought about WLS, but I knew I wasn't quite 100 lbs over weight. I did my research, checked into my insurance and made the first steps of the journey. Now here I am! I lost 27 lbs pre-op and I've lost 31 since. I've really been a slow loser since surgery, which has been frustrating for me. However, on the day of surgery, my BMI was lower at 33. I keep trying to remind myself that this a journey and I need to embrace it. This is where all of YOU come in. I NEED YOUR SUPPORT! I hope to make friends here and gain valuable knowledge. I look forward to meeting you all.

Welcome, Bonnie!!! Thank you for your service!!!!!! Sorry that you were hurt. You are doing great and found a great place.
Bonnie,
Welcome. Very happy to support you. I'm new here, too -- having recently moved over from another WLS forum.
Never fear. You will make your goal and maintain. Someone with your level of commitment and discipline was meant for the sleeve.
FYI, the speed at which you're losing is completely normal for a sleeved patient who started at your initial weight.
FYI, I was sleeved 2.5 years ago, lost 100 pounds and have kept it off for over a year.
Like you, I lost weight (12 pounds) pre-op on my own diet. Then I lost 8 pounds on my surgeon's pre-op diet. During Months 1-9 post-op I lost another 65 pounds. During months 10-18 I slooowly lost another 15 pounds.
And a year later, here I am, still happily maintaining at 135 pounds. :) I still track all my foods (My Fitness Pal) and exercise at least 5 days a week. I'm 71 years old and have more energy than I've had in decades. :)

Hi Ann,
You've done AWESOME!!!! Congratulations on your success! I love not feeling tired all the time, and finding it hard to catch my breath. I love buying new clothes even though I know they will only fit for a few months. I love having control over my life again. I hope I will be able to do as well as you have. You are quite an inspiration.
Thank you for reaching out to me.
Happy Friday,
Bonnie
Thanks, Bonnie. :) I know how great support feels. I sincerely meant every word about the value of the personal resources you are obviously bringing to this venture.
