Spicy?!

good morning everyone! Quick question.. starting purées on Monday! Kinda nervous about this stage. What do y'all think of starting spicy stuff now? I had my surgery on the 1st. I'm reading my book from the surgeon but it says nothing about hot sauce or anything spicy yet.. and apparently the office is closed today. Just wondering if I can add hot sauce to my puréed food once I get there? Thoughts? Experiences? Thank you :)

During my "soft diet" I added low sodium taco seasoning to refried beans, my dietician recommended, but that is the spiciest I chose to eat.  I am not a doctor but I would probably keep it to a minimum until your tummy heals.

One of the challenges I've had with spicy food post-op is that I can't drink anything to temper the heat if necessary.  So.. go slowly :)

I was adding Frank's Hot Sauce to chicken thighs about a month after surgery.  Everyone reacts differently and I had no problem with spicy.  All you can do is try.  If it bothers you, then wait a while and try again.

I was adding sriracha to chicken broth the first week post-op and it never gave me any trouble. And of course I kept going on purees and so forth with hot sauce, chili pepper spices, etc. etc. No problems. That said, I, along with everyone else in my family, have a famously cast-iron stomach and have never been bothered by any food. I could probably live off a diet of old t shirts and tin cans and never even burp. So, I am not sure how applicable my experience is to you!

I had no problem with spicy, although initially I dialed it back from my normal crazy hot status.

Spicy wasn't a problem for me either, but let your tummy be the guide....if the spice is too much, you'll know soon enough. But as others have suggested, go slow just to be on the safe side.

Spicy / hit sauce is a great condiment because it often. Packs huge flavor with little calories.

Be careful early thiugh because as Gwen said you can't drink to help if you go too spicy.

I want to remind everyone, milk is the safety for too much spice.  That being said, your tummy may be too small for the amount you may need.

i do love my habenero sauce...

Thanks guys! I've always been a huge spicy/hot stuff fan... but definitely didn't think about how I can't go straight to water or milk while eating! So I guess it looks like only slightly spicy for the rest of my life  I'll take it easy
