1 year sleeversary!
Today it has been exactly 1 year ago I embarked on a life-changing journey. I had my VSG surgery.
I remember being scared to death in the morning. My surgery was at 7:30 and I had to be there at 6:30 for prep work. The door was not even open yet when I got there and we took the picture on the left. My hair was still wet from the shower or from the nervous sweating or both, I bit all my nails and I remember thinking I wanted to run back to the car and tell my husband we were going home.
When I came out of surgery, I was nauseous and gagging for hours and I remember thinking "what the hell did I do to myself". I don't remember much else from that morning, but I remember waking up at home, in my own bed that afternoon and my beautiful daughter was laying next to me. She was sleeping, and holding my hand. I remember smiling and knowing why I did this. I need to be around for her, and for her children some day.
Except for the few hours after my surgery, I have not once regretted this decision, not even on the hard days. At 1 year out I am not able to eat just about anything. I still measure my food and make sure I don't overeat, I still measure my fluid intake and I am on the scale only once a month.
I went from 317 lbs and not being able to do 5 steps without pain to 210 lbs and able to do 0.6 miles in stairs in Cloud Canyon Park. I went from a size 22/24 to a size 12/14. I am happy, I feel healthy, and I know this is the best thing I have ever done for myself!
