New to this site........Pre-Op_ Hi all. I'm so happy and exited!
Congrats on your surgery date! I would suggest that you get on that liquid diet and be diligent. If they gave you a surgery date shorter than two weeks away, then they couldn't reasonably expect you to diet longer than you have time for! I. E. What they don't know... some people only have done one week, some do 24 hours. Looks like yours is 10 days. Good luck!!!
Congratulations and welcome! I am also pre-op and just joined myself a couple weeks ago after I got my surgery date (Nov 29th).
My surgeon requires a 5 day liquid diet, which I will be starting on Thanksgiving Day, but someone I know with a different surgeon has a 2 week liquid diet like you. I'm told it is to help you lose some weight and shrink your liver to make the surgery easier. The nutritionist says the first few days of the liquid diet may make you feel a little weak and dizzy but should get better (other than the obvious hunger and cravings!). I haven't done mine yet, so don't know exactly how it will affect me. Let's just hope you can breeze right through it. :)
Your surgery date will be here before you know it! My thoughts and best wishes are with you as you start this exciting journey!
Your liver is basically on top and or around your stomach. (In lay mans terms). The more it shrinks out of the way, (on liquid diet) the easier the surgeon can work on your stomach. You want your liver as much out of the way as you can, as you don't want any complications like a nicked liver (worst case).
my aunt had a liver biopsy done and they actually nicked it and she bleed out and died the next day. I know it wasn't a wls procedure. I know it was a accident, but I was scared to death about this happening to me, so I didn't cheat at all. First words in recovery were liver? and I made sure my doc knew I was worried about it lol
dont cheat, make this easier on yourself in the long run :) but don't freak out like me lol
Hi, Welcome to the forum. I hope you find it as informative and supportive as I have.
The length of the pre-op liquid diet varies tremendously with different programs. Some people have none at all, or a single day, some programs want weeks of liquid diet. So if your doctor is not concerned that it will be shorter, then you have nothing to worry about.
Best of luck with your liquid diet.

Other than losing weight, the two week pre-op diet just made me cranky for a few days. It's difficult, but worth it.
