I didn't have the hernia repair, but I know it's really common when you have VSG. Try not to worry -- it sounds like you're doing great. And if you start to have new pain, call your doctor's office -- that's what they're there for!
Hang in there -- you'll be surprised at how much better you'll feel every day! My surgery was two weeks ago and I'm feeling great now.
I'm two weeks out (today!), and I had that same pain with each sip for about a week. A lot of it is gas - you're literally displacing the gas with each sip. As that gas dissipates, the drinking gets easier. I could only take the tiniest sip at a time the first week. Now, I'm still sipping, but they are regular sized sips.
As everyone says, if it gets worse, or if you're worried, call your doctor's office. This is why they're there and they are used to answering these questions. If there's something to be concerned about, they will have you come in.
Hang on... it really does get easier every day!
Hi there.....first of all welcome to the Loser's Bench. Congrats on your surgery.
I agree with what everyone else has posted so far.....take it slow and please don't make yourself crazy. I had a hiatal hernia repair when my VSG was done - not sure if it's the same as what you had.
I think the pain you're experiencing might still be a bit of anesthesia in your system....it took me about 4 or 5 days for all of it to go away. Just make sure you get in as much water / fluid as possible and walk as much as you can. If you're still experiencing pain, if it gets worse or if you're worried, call your doctor.....they are used to dealing with more than just the physical...they understand the emotional as well.
It'll get easier before you know it. I understand that hearing that doesn't make this moment better or easier, but hopefully within the next 24 to 36 hours you'll see what we mean.
Good friends are like stars.
You don't always see them but you always know they're there.
Thank you so much for answering my post... Just really nervous here. I had a long ride home from the hospital, and had to stop for new meds a long the way. I was so overwhelmed when I got home if it wasn't for my wonderful husband I think I would of had a major meltdown. So many emotions all at the same time. I know this will all be worth it. I just need to slow down and breathe. So glad we have OH to come to. I don't know what I'd do without it. Thank you again for your reply!
