My Fitness Pal complaint
We also aren't under 15% body fat most of us. Anorexia is so dangerous and devastating because the bulk of individuals with it do not have the fat stores we do. Most WLS patients are not at a very low body fat for some time (if ever) so if we have adequate macro and micronutrients we do not cannibalize our bodies. With anorexia, eating the calories we eat would probably be devastating if the individual had very low body fat. MD monitoring aside, we could probably not eat a thing for months, if not over a year, and not be seriously malnourished if we stayed hydrated and took vitamins when we are at our higher BMIs.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much...the life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully. -- Seneca, On the Shortness of Life
But what about starvation mode? And unicorns?
If I ate nothing for a year, wouldn't I gain weight?

Unicorns feed on the tears wept during starvation mode. Starvation mode...bah. Starvation mode is more often used as an excuse to keep eating crap. It is true that your body will change your metabolism to conserve energy, but it's not "starvation mode" and it does not impede weight loss, necessarily.
Actually, a guy did eat nothing for a year, funny that you mention this. Oddly enough, he lost weight. Over 275 pounds to be precise. Someone better go tell him about starvation mode, I guess.

Ha.
It's too bad that the doctor who is the current big proponent of fasting hates bariatric surgery.

I had the same problem with MFP about 6 months out I switched to Baritastic App for tracking because it is for WLS people and I liked other features. I'm 13 months out and eat 800-900cal a day and it looks like that's what my body is happy with.
