Fast and Furious: Remarkable or Scary Loss?
Hi Guys,
I had the sleeve exactly 2 weeks ago today. I am 5'5 and weighed in at 250 the day of surgery and today I am 227. I have been on stage three of the diet for a week and following all the rules (except I had one half a turkey sausage). Most have you have said you lost a lot then plateaued. I am fine with that as I am not as concerned about the weight as being able to sit on a airplane without an extender. I do wonder how much is too much?
I pinged the doctor who said he wasn't concerned as long as I am getting enough water and protein (I am), and that I may have had a bump in weight because I caught pneumonia the first week after surgery. The pneumonia may have accelerated some of the weight loss. It's all great but somewhat scary. Any one had same experience?
This seems neither remarkable nor scary to me. Weight loss in the beginning always seems all over the place for people :)

Weight loss surges at first. Understandable, due to the rapid changes to our plumbing coupled with being unable to eat volumes of food. It then slows as the body adapts. I wound up losing 25 in the first three weeks after surgery. I don't think it's unusual. We also have far more fat than our bodies need and that is fueling our body during weight loss. It's more of a concern when people have rapid weight loss with low body fat because they then begin to cannibalize essential tissues for food.
Rapid weight loss isn't as dangerous for us because we are medically monitored. Staying hydrated is far more important than slow weight loss at this point. Don't worry, as the slow part of weight loss always comes far too soon. :)
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much...the life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully. -- Seneca, On the Shortness of Life
