Curiousity here - what is the relation of the bread to the upcoming endoscopy? I've had several in the past year with nothing beyond the empty stomach requirement. Are they looking for something specific that drives that requirement?

Yup - I have Celiac disease, and it can also cause GERD.  I have severe chest pain from GERD now that nothing (including Dexilant) is working on.  In order to gauge how severe/how much the Celiac is impacting the GERD, they must rule it out with biopsy.  In order to determine this you have to ingest gluten for several weeks before the biopsy.  They then measure how damaged your villi are.  Any gluten will do - I have actually been using seitan more since it's low cal than the LC bread.

If the cause of my GERD is the Celiac primarily with the hiatal hernia, it will change the surgery we revise to.  If it is the sleeve, the RNY will be suggested.  They are also biopsying for a few other things, as well as checking the sleeve structure.  On the CT scan in the ER it looked good, though.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

For ease of transition to AIP, check out the SAD to AIP in SIX program.

http://autoimmune-paleo.com/groupcoaching/

It's a gentle transition where you remove one group of offenders at a time (usually one a week) so it doesn't seem so...scary.

I did it, and thought I was better so I started reintroducing things. Eggs seem to be ok, but I really need to give up the stupid nightshades, which is awful for me bc I love hot sauce. Like, LOVE.

I feel you about the hot sauce. I eat spicy everything and when I saw cayenne pepper on there I was saddened. Most items on there I can work around, but damn the peppers are a big deal. At least black pepper was Ok. I'll take that. Bummed when I saw potatoes were out, but then realized sweet potatoes work- I can for sure do that. But occasionally, irreplaceables like coffee and pepper.

I will look at the gentler transition- exactly the approach I want to take. I tried to go cold turkey last weekend and made it like 4 hours.

I am forgetting though- I took in a laughing cow cheese today and didn't think about it. It will take a little time to make this a habit, but worth a shot.  Thank you for posting the link!

I highly recommend it.

For seasoning, Herbamare has been my go to. and I also look for curry types of recipes that are AIP so I can get the sense of spice, without the nightshades.

I still add protein to my coffee....

I add the powder to the cup, add just enough water to dissolve it then slowly add in some hot coffee, just enough to temper it.  Then I keep adding the coffee while stirring.  No clumps!

I used to do this. My favorite way is just to pour a quarter mug full and let it cool down to warm. Just have not had my act together enough in the morning to make time for that.

Without inquiring too deeply into the nature of your autoimmune illness, I suggest looking into the Specific Carbohydrate Diet: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/.

My husband has UC, which is clearing up fast after only 3 weeks on this diet. The SCD is very restrictive and must be followed with fanatical adherence, but it has helped him tremendously in the past as well as with the current flare-up. Getting enough protein is not a problem with this diet.

Just a thought.

Thank you psycho parrot. I have oral lichen planus with additional rashes on the chest and a few other locations. The mouth portion though is erosive and feels like a giant canker sore on steroids, so for sure I will be looking to tweak the diet where I can. Sadly, there is a product out there AHCC that a few folks on the OLP facebook page say put it in remission for them, but as it is a mushroom product it is a no go for me due to being allergic to mushrooms. I can't imagine the diet you posted is more restrictive than the AIP, but off to take a peek now!
