The hair loss...
So, I'm guessing I've lost at least 1/3rd of my hair volume... its broken and shedding... its deeply depressing. This started in August... how much longer? Any treatments I should do?
I've been foiling my hair since my early 20's... today I'm 44. I have grey tinsel growing in and I dont know if I should risk going for a foil? Also, I'm afraid to cut it short...its about shoulder length now- (which took FOREVER)... ugh- I need this to stop.
The good news (?) I guess is that my part hasnt widened from what I can tell... and I dont see any noticeable bald spots. It all seems just to be breaking, not necessary falling from the roots. But again, hard to tell.. ugh- I wasnt prepared for this.
Any advice or experience would help!
Thanks in advance- Eileen xo
Hair loss is one of those things that happens when it happens to who it happens to. No creams, diets, or potions will fix it. (Google telogen effluvium.)
Your hair stylist should be able to help you find a good hair style to deal with it. Or.. shave it off like I did :D

This happened to me, good news is that it lonely lasted about 3 month for me and then stopped. About a month later my husband saw little hairs showing up in my hairline (bangs area) and then it filled back in. I'm not sure if it's as thick or not but I'm happy that it's back as much as I need it to be.
I did have a drop in my iron during that time, and did experience a good sum of weight loss at that time. However I did take some Biotin and maybe it helped with my hair growing back but beware it may also make all your hair grow everywhere. I also doubled my iron pills per the docs request and my weight losses slowed way down. So any of those things might have helped or good ol time could have also been at work.

The cake is a lie, but Starbucks is not.
Telogen Effluvium is what is happening. Any protein or biotin you take now will benefit the new growth about to emerge and will do nothing to prevent or treat the shedding that is occurring right now. It lasts a few months. A haircut with layers will help blend in the new growth and keep you from looking like a chia pet.

Be wary of taking large biotin supplements. Many, many people on OH have reported it dies nothing to help shedding hair on their heads, but it does a wonderful job growing arm, leg and facial hair

For me it lasted from month 3-7. By 9 months out, I could see lots of new regrowth. Hang in there. Now my hair is thicker than ever.
