6 years out and steady gaining...
Hi! So I would love some advice! I had my gastric sleeve ddone in Feb of 2010. I did fantastic, and went from 210 pounds down to my lowest was 104. I am only about 5'1". I was really good about keeping it down and maintaining my weight, with no real significant weight gain. Last Oct I had some eye problems that resulted in surgery (2) and then this 2 weeks ago thyroid surgery to romve a nodule (thyroid working fine), but it seems I have been steady putting weight on. In Oct I was about 114, and tonight's weight is 133! It may not seem huge but for me I can really tell. I haven't changed any of my eating habits, and still exercising regularly. I take in about 1200-1300 calories a day. Has anyone else had this happen this quickly? I've even concidered trying something like phentermine or contrave. It feels like I am out of control!
My surgeon advises us to lose 10, 20 or 30 pounds under his goal because bounceback regain happens. Nobody stays at their all time low.
You need about 10 calories a day to maintain each pound. It takes 2100 calories to stay at 210. 1010 to stay at 101 and 1330 to stay at 133.
To lose one pound a week cut calories by 500 a day. If that is too hard cut 250 a day to lose 1/2 pound a week.
The sad truth is that the less we weight the fewer calories we can eat.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
19 pounds in about a year seems reasonable if you're eating more calories than your body needs. :/
If you aren't already, I recommend that you start measuring and tracking everything you put into your body using something like MyFitnessPal. You're clearly eating more calories than your body needs, so you need to figure out what you're eating now and work to decrease that until you're losing weight to get back to your goal.

Any chance that thyroid nodule/procedure might be throwing you off? I ask, as it may not be a coincidence that the weight started going up during that time period. The only time my weight (so far) went above goal was when I was drowning in acid from a hiatel hernia. Once that was repaired my weight has been below goal and steady per my new normal. Maybe check in with your doc for some labs?

Have to agree. I am also 6 years out, currently at 152. Lowest was 132, I bounced back to around 142-143 and stayed there for a long long time, but gained like 10 lbs in the past 12-18 months. Extremely low carb works for me, and pretty high fat (to maintain satiety). I disregard calories, just 20 gms carbs or less, moderate protein (60 gms or so) and high fat (usually around 130 gms). It's the ketogenic diet, and although it sounds terrible it's actually pretty healthy. High fat isn't unhealthy in the absence of carbs, but is VERY dangerous when carbs are high (i.e., Standard American Diet [SAD]}.
