Finally! Cleared for Surgery!!
After a big setback, disappointment and postponement of my 8/2/2016 surgery due to an H. Pylori stomach infection, I am happy to report that after my second endoscopy last week, the results are in and the infection is gone! I am now clear to proceed with my sleeve surgery on 9/27/2016!! Woo Hoo!!!

I find the different treatment protocols interesting.
My surgeon's office had me go do a full battery of blood work prior to my first appointment. It came back positive for H. Pylori and they said I needed to complete the course of antibiotics before they'd schedule the consults.
However, they are not concerned about further H. Pylori testing as long as I did the medicines prescribed. So I could still have it.
I will say, that those antibiotics were one of the best diets I have been on in a long time -- my stomach was upset for the full 10 days of medicine plus two to three afterward.
OMGOSH i couldn't agree with you more! I was sick as a dog for the whole 14 days. But unfortunately my Gastro Dr. wouldn't clear me until she confirmed with a 2nd endoscopy that the infection was completely gone and there was no residual because in her years of practice, she has seen many of people who need to take a 2nd course of antibiotics because there is some leftover "pylori's" hanging on for dear life that the first course didn't get rid of :( .... rather be safe than sorry.
I have read that some surgeons/gastros treat with 1 course of antibiotics and just dont even worry about it after that because you are having surgery to remove part of your stomach and likely, the infected part will be removed along with it. So i guess every doctor's way of doing things is different. And I also have to remain on a PPI medicine since the antibiotics were over because they found i already have GERD and gastritis. So... it kind of all worked out, i guess i'm ahead of the game at this point!

I think there are several tests for H. Pylori if they are looking for it (breath test, blood test and endoscopy/biopsy) and I believe you are right it will continue to come up positive in the breath and blood tests, but that's why my Dr insisted on another endoscopy. To biopsy my stomach lining after a month to see if it showed in the biopsy. That way she could be sure it was gone.
