Why do we have to take 30 minutes to eat a meal? Do you?

I am with you! I can not make any meal last 30 minutes but I weigh everything and chew well and have not had any problems. I eat as slow as possible and distract myself to make it last longer. I have my dr appt on 8/22 and will be asking him if this is ok. I am loosing weight and not hungry so I assume all is good.
I don't know about specific health reasons, but I can share my personal experience:
I'm 10 weeks post op and just now feeling like I know what the signs of full feel. If I eat too fast, I usually over eat and I feel the nasty symptoms (burping, etc.) but these usually don't arise until 5 - 10 minutes after the last bite. So I've learned to take my time, chew to liquid consistency and pause between bites to give me time to recognize fullness. Because of this, it usually takes me 30 minutes to eat my meal, and I find I can eat more if I do, which is good for me at this stage (I struggle with getting enough food in, and am trying to incorporate more vegetables in my diet).

I interpreted the 30 minute rule as "take no more than 30 minutes to eat a meal," i.e. if you're still eating after 30 minutes, STOP! You're done. I usually finish my food (small bites, thorough chewing, all the right things) in ten minutes. When all you can eat is 2 ounces maximum, it just doesn't take long! :)
