I got a call from my NUT
I have an appointment for my one year follow up with the surgeon and had my one year labs done last week. Today the NUT called because two items were low. Vitamin D and protein. I track my food and know how much protein I get - at LEAST 60 and normally 80-100 grams a day. The nut then asked how many carbs I have a day... about 20 or less. She wants me to increase my carbs with good ones and have them while I'm eating the protein. She said this way, my body would burn the carbs for fuel and not use all the protein I was eating. This seems so contrary to what I've read/learned/been told for the past year!!
Thoughts?
....can't wait to hear what Grim has to say about this!
Are you going to increase your protein levels?

If my protein number was low, I'd increase my protein, not my carbs. But that's just me. Carbs cause food cravings and water retention for me, and I wouldn't increase them. I'll be curious what others think..

There are carbs and there are carbs. I wouldn't increase or add refined carbs, but eating some more veggies, a little fruit, some milk, some nuts - that won't hurt anything. 20g a day is extremely low. Bump it up just a little, say to 30, and see how it works. You can always ratchet it back down.
What is the number on your protein in your current labs? And what was it before?
