anyone have bad GERD at the beginning that got better over time?
This must be my third or fourth GERD post, but I was at my PCP's today and she gave me a funny look when I said the dexilant I'm taking wasn't taking care of all the acid and that I was taking two pepcid every night too. That's unusual I'm sure, but how unusual is it for a sleeve patient?
I've had a local bariatric surgeon tell me that I will have no choice but to revise to bypass if the GERD is this bad at this point. My surgeon tells me nothing - just that it may improve, or might not.
Is there anyone here who had really bad GERD after surgery that improved over time - even went away?
Please, give me some hope. I really don't want another surgery.

At the risk of being repetitive, it might improve, it might not. Some don't develop gerd at all. Some have it for a while, and it diminishes. Some develop it after a few years. There are lots of combinations.

I had it for a couple of months after surgery, but it has subsided nos. Flares up on occasion but does not go back to the way it was in the beginning.

Asking here again won't get you anything you haven't heard before. Nobody here knows your exact medical situation, and nobody here is a doctor.
You need to speak to a surgeon, in person. If your current surgeon is not helpful, seek another opinion. And another after that. Maybe another bariatric surgeon, maybe a gastroenterologist. Maybe both.

Get tested for food allergies.
I had RNY and I still get a horrible GERD .. specially if I eat food that has something in it that I am allergic to... It sucks... but it is what it is.

Have you tried different PPIs? It took me two attempts to find one that really worked for me.
At this point, the only advice I would give you is to relax and wait. You are less than two months post-op. Before you start considering another surgery, let your body heal and adjust.

I am not but I am also not concerned with it. I eat A LOT of super acidic foods (spicy, tomatoes, lots of coffee, etc.), and don't restrict myself with that at all. I do feel that if I changed my diet to be more mindful of those things, then I could very well be OK not taking a PPI - but I'm not ready for that sacrifice yet.
