I see you had a lapband. Did you revise from lapband to sleeve in one surgery?

I had 2 separate surgeries 4 and 1/2 years apart. My band had eroded into my stomach and there was too much damage to convert. I tried to go it on my own but gained 55 lbs back and that was the reason I eventually converted.I didn't really have much acid with the band.

I had Gerd before surgery (12/08/2014) but didn't have any problems after surgery until I had lost my weight. About 8 months after surgery I started getting a lot of acid and heartburn. I mean ALOT. I was always burping and trying to get the gas and acid to come up. it hurt when my stomach was empty and even water made the gas worse. I tried Prilosec but it didn't get better so I stopped it and just took antacids daily. So a couple weeks ago I started googling "gas in stomach" and finally found some info on Probiotics. There are probiotics that are just for digestion issues so I found one for Bowel issues and ordered it. The first day I took it, the gas and acid was about 75% gone. Its now been 3 days and I didn't realize how bad I felt until I felt better, if that makes sense. The gas and acid is about 95% gone after 3 days. I wonder if this is something that all patients need to know about. Like maybe when the stomach is cut out, it takes all the good bacteria with it and we need a probiotic to give it back. Just a thought...Hope it helps someone.

Interesting. I recently started drinkiong Kombucha, and that resolved my acid issues almost completely. The tea is high in probiotics as well, and mighty delicious to boot!

Had terrible Gern prior to surgery 12/11. No acid issues hardly after. Occasional use of Omnaprazole.

Last year terrible acid again- even worse than before. Took Pantoprazole 2x daily. It was from the reoccurance of a hiatel hernia that was repaired during the sleeve surgery, but even worse now.

Currently weaning off Pantoprazole. I have found that drinking Kombucha is really helping. Now I take acid reducers only as needed and averaging maybe 3 pills a week.

One thing I just learned was to take the PPI on an empty stomach (at least one hour after eating or drinking!) and to wait another hour before eating or drinking.  Once I instituted those changes I have had zero problems with acid.  Good luck all!
