Omeprazole
Has anyone's surgeon taken them off omeprazole in light of the dementia threat? I was supposed to have an appointment with my surgeon tomorrow and because he has surgery I am bumped out another month. I haven't stocked up on the omeprazole in anticipation of seeing him and getting his views. Has anyone switched to zantac? Two of my non-VSG friends have been switched off omeprazole to zantac.

I've never heard of a doctor stopping the med for that reason alone. The risk is slight compared to the benefit of the meds.
I was on a PPI for 4.5 years. I needed it so there was no other option.

My gastro doc said not to worry about it. He also said that if I am not symptomatic to not take it, and if symptomatic take the minimum amount needed.

I take an H2 blocker because I was reading that PPIs were having negative long term effect. DW takes PPI because H2 blockers don't relieve reflux for her. I may have to in the future but for now I am using Pepcid and tums with good results. They may have bad research next year on H2 blockers. LOL
H2 blockers or acid blockers such as
cimetidine (Tagamet)
famotidine (Pepcid).
ranitidine (Zantac)
nizatidine (Axid)
