B-Complex Vitamin
Hi all! Sleeved 8/5/2015, down exactly 100 pounds (yay!)
I purchased a 500 count of Kirkland B-Complex vitamins at Costco the other day (500 pills for $14.99? Sign me up!). I've been taking them with my nightly meds for two days now, and I noticed that this morning, my pee is bright yellow--like, florescent. I know that this is a side effect of B vitamins, as they are water soluble (meaning you pee out any excess), but I was wondering if a) I'm taking too much (the amounts are based on a 2000 calorie diet, which I'm obviously not getting, but I was under the impression that it's okay, as we need more to replace what we don't get through food) and b) if my body will figure out how to process the vitamins more effectively, lightening my pee. I've posted the label from the vitamin below. Anyone have any experience with this?

That's another WLS=RNY thing. What little stomach is left in the digestive tract of a bypass makes an insignificant amount of the intrinsic factor needed to process B12, which isn't the case with the more complete sleeved stomach. Absorption may be impaired to some degree so that supplements may be needed, but it's nothing like with the bypass situation (somewhat like the NSAID issue - much more significant for the bypass than the VSG/DS). Likewise, B12 supplements are not a protocol of my doc's program, which is a longstanding DS/VSG practice. As usual, it's a supplement as needed situation. I have been on an oral B complex since long before the VSG and my B12 levels are always above the normal band.

Good to know!! I'll confer with my doctor when I see him next--I'll bring both bottles of vitamins in with me (the chewables I was taking and the B12 complex I'm taking now) and see which one he'd prefer me to take.
