Did anyone else feel this way?

Hi! I am new to the site. I am due to be sleeved on 8/2/16. I am seeing all of these success stories,  but seems I haven't seen many like me at all. I have seen many people around my weight, but much shorter in height than me. I know it is different for everyone, but I am 5'9 and have barely seen any women on these threads who are my height, around or above my weight to see that it is truly possible to drop this weight and look amazing again and keep it off. I intend on using this tool to the max, believe me,  I am excited!! But I guess what I'm trying to say is I feel like an outsider since I'm tall and heavy instead of average height and heavy. And I guess I'm wanting to see someone who is my height and weight approximately and see a before and after photo to assure myself that it can be done! By the way, all of your stories and before and after photos are informative,  helpful, encouraging, supportive and inspiring and I'm glad I found this site.

I'm 5'6", so I don't match your stats. But there are some tall ladies around who had massive losses.

But your comparison is kind of off. If someone is around your weight and much shorter, they actually have more to lose than you do.

More weight to lose = takes longer = is harder, etc. So their success stories should be more comforting!

If you want to compare(which is really hard not to do, but very bad for your mental well-being once you start losing, trust me on this...), work out your BMI and then look for folks who share your same BMI.

Good luck with your surgery :)

I never thought about trying to match the BMI. That's a good idea. I appreciate that. Thank you! And thank you for the well wish on my surgery! I know everything will be great ? I just felt like I was the odd man out...

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your decision to have WLS.

I am 5'7.5", and there are many people taller than me on this site who have met their weight loss goals.  I weighed 385 when I started and I lost 225 pounds.  I don't think height has much impact on the weight loss process.  You'll do fine if you make the commitment and stick to your plan.

best wishes,

Carol

Hello! I am much shorter than you so I can be of no help LOL

I didn't see your weight on this post so I am unsure if you match up weight wise...but do you watch VSG stories on youtube? If so DreaVSG is a user you should look up! I am pretty sure she is your height if not a slight bit taller. Here starting weight was in the 300s. She is in the 170s now.

Just an idea...hope you get what you are looking for!

Hi! Thank you so much! I will definitely look her up. Yes,  I haven't completely figured out how to put my current weight up or much else other than putting a picture of myself on here. Lol. Yes, I'm presently 317, hoping to be at least 200, at best 170-175 range.

I'm an inch shorter than you! I'm not sure what your weight is! With that being said I wouldn't compare myself to others!! This is a wonderful tool and if you follow your surgeons/doctors guidelines you'll be successful! Good luck to you!

I'm trying to get my information on my profile. Lol,  haven't been able to do it yet. OK great! Thank you so much,  I just felt like I was the only one who wasn't 5'4- 5'6 and was having this surgery. I guess just for validation. But your results are truly amazing and congrats! Thank you for the support! ?

Plenty of tall folks here, including many who are much taller. Height really doesn't mean too much, especially regarding maintenance. You might check mybodygallery.com since you want people with your height to look at.
