When your wieght is good or slightly below goal, ever notice how easy it is to make excuses?

My weight is a bit below where my doctor wants it, and nearly 20 pounds below my goal weight. I can't believe how much I use this to rationalize eating crappy choices. Loads of sugar, highly processed carbs... probably about 25%-30% of my daily intake calorically speaking. It makes me feel crappy, gives me problems with blood sugar level, but that sugar crack head mentality of mine at the moment is winning the battle.  I know this is a slippery slope, and some in part to my system being able to handle carbs and utterly incapable of handling any fat at all in the diet. But still, I know better. Just wondering if others notice the same type of issue.

Yes, yes, yes!!!  Except I played these mental games too early and never got to my personal goal (doc goal reached).  Good for you for being below your goal weight!

Carbs are so evil, and I applaud you for recognizing what's going on so hopefully you can keep from regaining.  Wish I had the secret to taming the "sugar crack head mentality" - it sucks!  Actually, I guess we all know the secret - avoid carbs and detox if you slip up - but it sure is hard to follow through sometimes.  Good luck!

I use my "good weight" as an excuse to eat "wheat thins"  I'll have them with humus or with a buffalo chicken dish I make.  I'll tell myself I will limit it to 16 crackers, and then its 20 crackers, then 24, and then I'm off track again.  I start gaining weight, and I hit my high limit, and I KNOW carbs are doing me in, but I try to justify it, and tell myself I can lose weight while eating those carbs.  And then I wonder why I'm not losing weight.

I've done this cycle a number of times, and you think I'd learn, but the wheat thins taste so good to me.  I don't want to give them up.  I know if I ate cake or cookies regularly, I'd be out of control.

I've been off carbs for a few days now, and I'm back on track to lose the extra pounds.  But I know that I will be tempted again when I get to goal weight.

Managing obesity is no easy task!

Good luck getting back on track.

I don't even need an excuse to make excuses :-p

But for me, being completely off all forms of crack takes away the crazy chatter in my head. I have been clean from all flour/added sugars for 4 months and it's so easy without the cravings.

I have been watching your journey for years now, and might I say I am so inspired by your 4 months crack free status. That is my dream. Aside from attending overeaters anonymous, was there any strategy that helped you go 100% clean other than just going cold turkey? I know in my heart I need to find my way to that place, but damn. I never thought I would be able to maintain a healthy weight, while simultaneously getting chewed up by my sugar crack issue.

I went totally cold turkey. I got to a point where I was desperate to get off the sugar and cheez it's lol. I spent so much time physically sick from the sugar and mentally in a bad spot with depression and anxiety so it wasn't too hard for me to just wake up and go cold turkey. I did a week of no sugar before I began the no flour and I did suffer and have to white knuckle it for that week but after that, it's been smooth sailing.

Ok, so I just need to pull up my big girl panties and do it. I am going to wait until I am done recovering from surgery, but then game on.

I swore that I would NOT resort to buying larger clothes. Period. Even if that meant I had to wear my summer dresses in the dead middle of our frigid Michigan winters until I could get my weight under control. Almost happened this past August, as I had chronic stomach and digestive issues and lived on ice cream the whole summer. (Stupid me, didn't realize how much worse that made it, as I was decieved by feeling better for just a bit after eating it.) I think personally you have a good plan to draw that line in the sand until your clothes are fitting better. Good luck!

Yes, same type of issue here too. Today I told myself that I'm NOT eating those extra carbs and staying off sugar. Its been really rough but I don't want 4 lbs to go into 6 and then 10! Sounds like you still have restriction and are able to keep your weight down. Thats awesome! Thank you for your post Christine
