Supplements to help manage post op healing, swelling, and pain.

So I am currently recovering from the 6th surgery in less than two years, and double digits worth over the last 4 years. This is my final attempt to get the reconstruction process to take post double mastectomy, and I researched supplements as an option to help. Because at this point, gotta try something IMHO. Anyway, I am 6 days out, and at least anectodtally I am sold. I thought I would share the supplement regiment with others, although please be warned that these are a lot of pills and I have no idea if you can grind them or find liquid form- so if you have an interest please please run it by your doc first. Remember, I am doing this for a totally different surgery!!

wait 3 days after surgery...

multivitamin (a good one)- Patchmd.com the multi that has iron works awesome for me   cq10, 100-200 mg   vitamin c, 1,000 mg 3x daily for two weeks, then 1x daily (Note: this is acidic so might be an issue post vsg, but it for sure supports immune system health!)   zinc piconlinate 30-50 mg for two weeks   probiotic   vitamin b6, 250 mg 2x daily... this one reduces swelling   omega 3 fish oil, 3,000 mg daily for two weeks, then 1,000 mg after   bromelain on an empty stomach, follow label instructions for dosage, 2 weeks post op (decreases inflammation)   arnica 30c, 1 pellet 4 or 5 times per day up to two weeks after- this helps with pain and inflammation.   So, how has it worked? This is surgery number 6 where I have had drains, and hence have measured daily output of the fluid that would otherwise cause swelling. OMG, it is dramatically less for me! I would normally be kicking out over 100 ml per drain at 6 days out. It takes a full month for me to lose the damn drains, where normal folks typically have them out in a week or so. Instead, I am sitting at 20 or 30 depending on which drain is used. Now I also did include 1 glass of fresh veggie/fruit juice via my Vitamix or Breville juicer- so perhaps that also helped. Pain- I was less sure about this one until today. The Arnica 30C is supposed to help. Today, I was sore enough I went to take a pain killer, but instead grabbed the Arnica and took 3 pellets. It worked. It worked better than extra strrength tylenol. Go figure. I have no idea why it worked, or if it is just a giant coincidence, but I will continue this path for the 2 week duration.    Again, run everything by your doc, but I thought others might be interested. Here's to our health!
