Stuffed feeling all the time!

Hi all- my recovery has been amazing so far (47 lbs lost, 32 since surgery) so I hate to complain...but I am starting to feel MORE tired (not less).  I know it is because I am only getting about 40 gm protein and 50 oz water.  I am truly trying to do more but my stomach always feels like I just had a huge turkey dinner (like I always used to eat at Thanksgiving).  I don't want to get the foamies (did that once) or throw up (did that once too).  My NUT says..."whatever you have to do" but that isn't really helping.  Should I force the liquids even if they make me sick?  I'm on solid foods and can eat about 1.5 ounces (which has been all protein until yesterday I introduced 1/2 oz of veggies- beets).  I eat 2 meals of 1.5-2 oz and a shake for breakfast and I still only get around 50 gm protein...she wants me at 90!  I am completely open to ideas and suggestions....even if they are over the top.  I need to be sharper and I'm getting duller!  Help!!

For the first 7 weeks, my tummy was so swollen that I could only eat 1 to 1.5 ounces of dense protein per meal.  in week 7 the swelling went down and it slowly improved.  The protein is important to healing, so I made sure I got made my protein numbers even when my capacity was small.  I'd stir unflavored protein powder into anything that could be stirred, jello, pudding, soup, broth, etc.   I aimed at 80grams per day.

I didn't add veggies to my diet until I could get 3 to 3.5 ounces of dense protein per meal.  That was at 5 or 6 months.  I remember how happy I was when I could finally eat more variety of foods rather than just dense proteins.

You can make this work with a little creativity.

best of luck,

Carol

Thanks, Carol- I will add some protein to the other stir-ables!  And I'll go back to only protein at meals.  (I was worried that I was tired due to lack of veggies!). Thanks for the concrete advice and encouragement.  I appreciate it! Cheryl

Personally, I would add another protein shake in the mid afternoon. I know the feeling you describe and a sipped protein drink over an hour should not add to that feeling. YOu really need to get that protein in. 40 grams is simply not enough.

Thanks, Kairk-   I will try that as well. Cheryl

A second protein shake would help with the protein reqs.  As to the 'full' feeling, maybe try snacking?  Break up your meals into 6 a day with smaller portions, that way you don't have to force yourself to eat until you are uncomfortable just to get in your protein and calories.  What is your caloric intake?  If you are getting less then 800 a day you are going to feel weak and your stamina will be nil especially if you are exercising.

For me I try to eat protein every two hours whether its shake or tuna. Skakes count as liquids.
