Hi all I was released from the hospital on Wednesday, and overall I have to say I've been feeling pretty good.  My Dad bought me a Fitbit while I was in the hospital and i have to say I it's really cool and helpful.  I am tolerating all the liquid foods just fine so far pain is noticeable but not unbearable.  I usually take the pain meds at night before bed to help sleep through the night.  Other then that I'm doing great and possibly going back to work on Monday!!

I do have a few questions one is did anyone less experience bruising around any of for incision sites? I have small bruising around all but one I have a deep purple bruise and big circle but not drainage for redness or anything should I be concerned? 2) How soon after the surgery did you start to see weight loss?  I know they say not not weigh yourself after surgery because all the fluids your given at the hospital need to come out.  So I'm just curious,  I was planning on weighing myself Monday morning which would be one week after my surgery, good idea or no?

Congratulations yeahhhhhhhh  you did it.  I'm so glad you came back on to let us know how you are doing..

You weigh yourself whenever you want....I would definately weigh myself as soon as i get home in the morning so i have a number to compare it too after one week

(but that's me) just know that like you said we are filled up with so much liquid that it will take a couple of days for that to come off.  but go ahead WEIGH ON yeahhhhhhhhh

Hi!  Glad to see you're doing well.. I didn't weigh myself until my first doctors followup (10 days)

My incisions didn't bruise but I'm not surprised yours are. I would think as long as they aren't red, warm to the touch, tender or oozing they are fine.

I heard from the Dr. and they said just what you did.  It is normal and can happen as long as there is no redness, oozing and you don't have a fever or anything they are just fine.

Hey glad you made it through! The bruising is nothing unusual, as long as it's not infecting it's probably fine. Keep an eye on it though.

I weighed myself every day after surgery for a week and I lost 17 lbs in the first week. Now I weigh myself once a week simply to see where I am at, but I have learned not to obsess over the scale, as you will experience stalls that may get frustrating. So once a week at the most these days.

Keep moving forward!

I had lots of bruising around my incisions. Eventually they healed up and everything was fine.

I didn't weigh myself until my 4 week post-op check in, which is what my surgical team recommends. They said people who weigh themselves a lot, especially early on, tend to get stressed out and disappointed because they can't handle stalls and start to feel like they are in a race to lose weight, and end up generally being unhappy no matter how fast they are losing. They prefer their patients to focus on how well they are complying with the post-op nutrition plan and gauge their success by that rather than by weight. That approach worked well for me, but YMMV.

Congratulations! Bruising is normal, pain and itching is normal. It will be gone soon.

I gained 11 pounds from the surgery. It took over a week to get rid of it. I lost 21 pounds or so by the end of the first month.

If you don't worry too much about day to day weight fluctuations, weigh as much as you like. If you get all worked up about it, do it every week or two.

I did my official weigh in every seven days. Those were the numbers I tracked. Since you have a Fitbit account, sign up for a free account at Trendweight.com. It will get your weights from Fitbit, and give you a nice graph of your weight. It will smooth out the little fluctuations, so you can see the bigger picture. And it will give you a projected date for hitting your goal weight if you stay on track. Very cool.

I've had many surgeries, but the bruising from this one was the very worst I have ever had. My whole abdomen was as purple as an eggplant for a few weeks.  It's finally cleared up, but it was evident that the surgeon was pretty rough on the innards.

I've been robbed! My grandbaby stole my heart!  She just raised her hands and I surrendered.
