What part do protein bars have in your plan?

I fell in love with the Quest Brownie bar when it was introduced.  I always have one available and like them best warmed about 10 seconds in the microwave.  I count the calories, protein and carbs in My Fitness Pal.  They do not cause weight gain for me, but they count as one of my six small meals per day.  I also like their chocolate chip cookie dough bar.

If you don't have a microwave handy, you can warm it up nicely by keeping it under your armpit for several minutes.

I still eat protein bars, but mostly as a glorified candy bar, but it doesn't trigger me. I like the quest bars. I get the most protein bang for my calorie buck. It's convenient, I can carry them in my bag & use to curb hunger pangs till I get home for a real meal.

I tried many brands but always come back to Quest. I only used them for 'emergencies' during weigh loss phase, but eat one daily now - the fiber helps with my bathroom duties ;-). Just ordered some of the fibre to try making my own bars or just adding it to my morning yogurt.

Ditto to what everyone posted. No protein bars for me ever. Same with shakes. Real food is much more enjoyable for me. Snacks - you can always do things like jerky, string cheese, nuts, laughing cow wedges, those small tuna pouches, etc.

For what it's worth.... my nut told me in choosing a protein shake or protein bar, choose the one that has a 1:1 ratio in carbs and protein. So, if yours had 20 carbs and 20 protein,,,, that is a 1:1 ratio. Sounds like you picked a good one! :)

Protein bars are more of an emergency/convenience food for me (I always make sure I have one in my purse) or a treat. That being said I don't think they're evil or bad in moderation, yes they are a processed  food, but at Grim pointed out it's better than grabbing a cheeseburger when you're out and about. Quest bars (which are my personal favorite) can be made into cookies: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2015/07/quest -protein-bar-cookies.html which is nice when you want a not-so-terrible nutrition wise treat. I still have to have protein shakes daily because I want to hit high numbers on protein (80 plus grams) and sometimes I have days where food doesn't sit well in my banana tummy at all (I'm only 11 weeks out as of yesterday) so there are days where two of my meals will be protein shakes. You have to do you and listen to your nut/dietitian within reason (if you think they are off base ask more questions behind their reasoning and do your own research). Personally if you're not living solely on protein bars I think you'll be fine. You could be eating something much worse, like a Snickers, than a quest or similar protein bar. Just be cognizant of calories and carbs while in weight loss would be my advice.

Quest bars for my rule of "no more than 10 calories per gram of protein."  I just started using them recently because they're very easy on my long school days.

I have protein bars only when I get a craving for chocolate & nuts or for a day like today when I am off to Disneyland and need to avoid the caramel chocolate popcorn like the plague!

Early post op, I tried the Bariwise Caramel Nut and they tasted like a Snickers bar! Great but it soon became a trigger food.  I had to stop ordering them.

Now, at almost a year post op, my taste buds have changed, so the caramel nut is not as yummy but still great for a small meal replacement.  It is 155 calories and 12g of protein.  The Bariwise Caramel Crunch is good also.

I am one of the few people who gag on Quest Bars.....

So, the protein bar is both a snack and a meal depending on what I think I need.
