Need help choosing calcium chews...

I am having my surgery in 5 weeks and i'm buying all my protein powders and vitamins right now.  I am trying to save money by not ordering the calcium chewables, multivitamins and B12 supplements from the bariatric websites.  I have purchased Centrum chewables multivitamins as my daily multivitamin.  Does anybody use any of the calcium chews sold at stores such as Citracal or Viactiv Calcium Chewables?   If so are both of these products good for bariatric patients?  What calcium chews, multivitamins and B12 supplements are recommended that are sold in stores or online?   Any advice would be very helpful and appreciated.   Thanks.

Any calcium chews I have seen in stores, including the Viactiv, are calcium carbonate or tricalcium phosphate. You won't absorb very much of those, so don't bother.

The only calcium citrate chews, which you need to take, are available online. Most people that go that way use Celebrate or Bariatric Advantage brands.

My doctor told me that I can take these in pill form - the only restriction is if I can swallow them. I had been taking some chalky chewables that were NASTY so I was happy to move to the pills. Most of these are horse pills, but I found Citrical Petites are a reasonable size. I found them on sale BOGO on the Internet, and stocked up!

From what I've read on this site, I guess there are some surgeons who don't want their patients to use pills, so you should make sure it's okay with them.

The chew I selected constipated me so I moved to pills and yes you must use citrate.  I purchase online

I used Wellesse liquid calcium. Everything else I looked at was too high calorie and high carb for my needs. I no longer take calcium supplements though.

Bariatric Advantage has 500mg calcium chews in a variety of flavors, usually around $32.00 for a month supply.  I take three per day, and vary which flavors I take. Some people think they're too expensive, but considering what I spend on food prior to WLS, they are a deal.

Avoid anything with calcium carbonate.  You need calcium citrate after WLS.

Please don't buy everything pre op.  Most of the protein I did before  I can't tolerate after surgery so unless my husband drinks them, they will sit there.  My taste buds changed so wait on vitamins too. I think celebrate vitamins has a sample pack you can order.

I take ProCare Health Bariatric multi vitamins. Take 1 per day. A 90 day supply is $34. I recommend taking a bariatric multivitamin. We are not eating enough food to get anywhere near the vitamins we need.

You could take Calcium Citrate petites, but you would have to take 6 pills per day. 2 pills is only 400mg calcium.

I'd rather chew my vitamins than swallow them so I got Calcium Citrate from Twinlabs at Vitamin Shoppe.  They are large wafers, not bad tasting.  They have a bariatric formula.
