Prescription card to order kids meals

Hi all,

I have a quick question. My doctor gave me a laminated card that explains that I had VSG and I should be allowed to order either kids meals or half sized adult meals.

Has anyone else received one of these? Do they work? Have you ever had a hassle from a restaurant for it? I doubt I will ever use it, as I am super private and the thought of telling a server in an open restaurant really freaks me out, but I was just wondering.

Thanks!

My surgeon or Weight Loss Center does not issue those, but I have heard of other having them. I usually split my meals with my Mom & when she isn't with my I have left overs. Personally I like having leftovers when I go out to eat.

You will NEVER find a healthy, weight loss surgery compatible meal on a children's menu.  Chicken nuggets, hot dogs, fries, and Mac and Cheese are not on the program.  Restaurants are not obligated to honor your "card" either.  I would NEVER tell a waitress my medical history, and handing hem that card does just that.

Just order  a shrimp ****tail off the appetizer menu, share a meal, or bring home the left overs.  You might be able to get several meals from the leftovers.

Ditto to this, 1,000% percent. I eat out like 2-3 times a week, do not have a card, and never felt the need for one. I've also never felt weird about only eating 1/2 my entree or ordering an appetizer as an entree, etc.

I order a full meal and take about 2/3 of it home.  The waitress does not need to know I had surgery.  Most times the people that I am with also don't know.

I was issued a card but I'm only one week post op so obviously I haven't used it. I stopped eating out about 6 months before surgery so I'm not sure I will have much of a use for it anyway.

I was with my friend several times when she used hers and she never had any problems.

I have one but I never use it.

If I need to order something special or a half-portion, I just ask nicely. Something like, "hi, I'm on kind of a funky diet, would it be OK if I..." or "I'm not super hungry, would it be possible to get just a half portion?" I've never run into any sort of trouble as long as you're nice about it!

No one should be eating the chicken fingers and French fries - not even the kids!

I was looking at Texas Roadhouse, because my sister wants to go there for her birthday. One the kids menu there is a grilled chicken breast with a side of veggies. I think most kids menus nowadays have some version of a healthy meal. Not just the chicken strips :P

I think that Texas Roadhouse is in the minority for healthy kid choices.
