No Pre-op diet before surgery?
I've heard a couple people lately, about not having to do the "pre-op" diet, I wonder why?
All surgeons must be different, I am so nervous of the diet but... I WILL be sticking to it, I am strong enough to do this.
No doubt about it.
I just wonder why some people are not required to do one?

A friend of mine had his sleeve done about 1 1/2 years ago in Nicaragua. His surgeon required only a 24-hour fast before surgery. All went well for him, and he lost all his excess weight. His is the only surgery I've heard of in which the surgeon required no extended pre-op diet.
I don't know how surgeons decide what an optimum pre-op diet should be or how long it should last. Sleeve surgery is still relatively new, and requirements vary wildly. My advice -- do whatever your surgeon directs you to do and don't worry about what anyone else is doing. That way, you and your surgeon will be on the same page on surgery day, and your surgery will be safer and your recovery smoother.

I only had to do a one day clear liquid diet. My surgeon said he used to require a pre op full liquid diet , but found no significant difference in liver shrinkage in those who did the liquid diet and those who didn't.

My surgeon said if your BMI is under 46 you don't have to do a liquid diet as it is mainly to shrink your liver before surgery. I didn't have to do the liquid diet either except for just 1 day before my surgery.
