Post surgery liquid phase

What were your staples for your liquid phase after surgery? I have surgery next Monday and want to make sure I have what I need in the house so I don't have to venture to the store after having surgery.

I'm stocked up on protein and sugar free popsicles from my preop diet. And got some soups today. Anything else you had or wish you had in the post open liquid phase? I'll be on liquids for 2-3 weeks before progressing to soft food.

Thanks

I was on clear liquids for a week post op.. I had unjury chicken broth and unflavored protein powder, wonton broth, apple spice tea, homemade chicken broth.

My Dr. wasn't concerned about me getting protein in the first week.. I just needed to make sure I got my fluids in, warm drinks went down easier than cold.

I did not realize one small can of broth was going to last most of the first week. I was only drinking a tablespoon at a meal.  Do you have sugar free jello?

A variety of beverages, hot and cold. You might need to experiment to find one you tolerate well. Powerade Zero, Crystal Lite, Mio, tea, etc etc.

I am 10 weeks post op and I readily remember, my intake consisted of Premier Protein shakes I bought from costco and my sobe life waters also bought from Costco, that was my staple for 2 weeks post op. It really wasn't all that hard. I agree with others on this, it's more important to keep your fluid levels up in the very beginning than the protein, that said, protein is what will help you heal. What I did was alternate between them. It wasn't that hard on keeping up the fluid level, I came home the day after surgery about 5 pounds heavier than I went in the morning of the surgery due to all the fluids they pumped in while I was there. I think they do that specifically to give you a leg up on the journey once you get home. For my first oral fluid the morning after surgery, I could drink about 1/3 of an ounce without getting nauseous. However after a few days at home and the swelling subsiding, I was able to drink more freely and had no problem getting in 64 ounces plus a day. I know some have had issues getting the fluid level, all I can say is just sip sip sip and walk walk walk. My problem even now 10 weeks out, is I forget to drink, I just don't feel thirsty all that much anymore. Good luck to you. 8)

I had tried and loved Grape Crystal Light before surgery so I bought a ton.  I got home and couldn't stomach the smell or taste of it one bit! I tried strawberry watermelon and that worked very well for me.  Get a few flavors just in case :)  Sugar free pops were a necessity for me to get all of my liquids in.  Good luck!

I got the Unjury Chicken flavored protein powder that can be added to warm water. It's like sipping on chicken soup but with more protein. Congrats on your upcoming surgery!!!

I have been "eating" unjury chicken soup every day on my preop diet. It's been a savior, makes me feel like I'm having a meal.
