This feeling goes away, right?

Hi all. Sorry for the numerous questions. I am one week post-op and am still having my buyers remorse, so I have a lot of questions. I know I will get past this, but this message board helps.

The pain and bubble I get when I drink, even small tiny amounts, that will pass right? One day I will be able to drink like a normal person, right?

Thank you!

Sip, sip, sip now and it will get better ! At eight months out, I can drink a twenty ounce bottle of water in about ten minutes. I can have repeated swallows, but "chugging" is not comfortable. Hang in there !

It will take several weeks, to several months for that feeling to lessen. Within a week or two you'll be able to take a normal sip without any discomfort. It will take much longer before you can swallow a gulp or a mouthful of water in several swallows.

I'm 4 years out and can drink 8 oz of water in a minute or two. I still don't like taking a chug of water though. Come to think of it, I was never a chugger before VSG.

Yes it will get better, take small sips and try to exhale before you sip so no air goes in.

It will definitely get better but I'm not sure chugging will ever be an option.  I am 15 months out and still feel SLIGHTLY uncomfortable when I try to drink too much at one time.  No big deal though.  Everything will get better, hang in there.

Yes, it will get better and you will be able to drink like a normal person. I'm about one-year post-op and went ziplining today in a dry tropical forest under the blazing hot noonday sun. I drank water beforehand, but oh dear lord, did I sweat in the sun and with the effort of getting myself clipped and unclipped to the zipline. The tour was only 1 1/2 hours long, but I was dead thirsty afterwards. They won't let you attach anything to yourself, like a water bottle, when you're zipping; it could catch on something. They had cold water at the end of the tour. I couldn't chug, but took big gulps about every 20 seconds. Got about 12 ounces of water down in less than 5 minutes. That's about as fast as one can drink with a sleeve, I do believe! And it was more than enough. Cooled down fast.

Suggestion: Don't go ziplining in the tropics while you're still healing from sleeve surgery!

It was amazing, though I was disappointed not to see any howler monkeys. I actually ziplined at my high weight of 275 pounds 3 years ago. It's true that my son and a guide had to half-drag me from one platform to the next, but the zipping itself is dead easy. I even did the Tarzan rope swing. You should be ready to zip by summertime!
