Help. Question for women.

So I'm about 18 months out from surgery, but I've never been good with getting liquids in. To be honest, I drink a lot of coffee. Anyway, I've never had any problems with it and I've just never been a big drinker.

Last night, I peed and the urine looked fine, but when I wiped, there were several spots of bright red blood on the toilet paper! I went again and checked and the blood is definitely coming from where I pee. I checked again this morning and it's still there, but not as bad as last night.

Im really freaking out. I am going to try to see a doctor today, but we're still basically snowed in from a big snowstorm.

i just wondered if it could maybe be due to dehydration or something like that and wondered if this has ever happened to anyone else. :(

Any burning, pain or frequency?  You may have a urinary tract infection.  Your doc will probably run a urinalysis and culture to find out for sure.  Small amount of blood is not unusual with a UTI.. You could have a kidney stone which will also make you have some bleeding.  Try not to worry to much... See the doc to see what they say.

Yes, I do have some burning. I've just never known of anyone to actually see blood when they pee. I thought it was just usually microscopic/trace amounts.

Go to an emergency room or urgent care.  This is NOT normal.

I actually get blood all the time with UTIs - quite a bit at time. With the burning it sounds like a UTI but could be stones too. I would get checked out but don't think it is a dire emergency, especially if you have no fever.

Sounds like a urinary tract infection to me, you need to get some antibiotics in that case

Sounds like a UTI or bladder infection.  Go see someone!

I just got finished at my family doctor and I don't have a UTI. I was really hoping that was the case. She's sending me for a kidney ultrasound, kidney function blood tests and a urologist referral. Now I'm really worried. :(

I was really worried this morning and am glad you got to a doctor.  Kidney failure is nothing to fool around with.  I got dehydrated two summers ago and it caused some kidney damage.  The kidney specialist told me to never get dehydrated again.  I thought I was drinking enough fluids but was out in the sun for hours at a time and not drinking enough.

My first UTI at 16 years old I peed blood.  I wasn't at home and was scared to death!  So ya, it can happen.  My mom on the other hand has had chronic UTI's and goes to the doc without any symptoms but they tell her she has one.

Good luck!
